Fluidized bed spray dryer FSD series
The FSD series of built-in fluidized bed spray dryers is one of the most successful designs of spray drying equipment to date. It can be applied to many types of products, especially those that are difficult to form by conventional drying techniques.
The FSD series of built-in fluidized bed spray dryer drying technology combines fluidized bed drying technology with spray drying technology to make particle shape and size easy to control. In addition, the FSD series is often used as a spray drying agglomeration or spray drying granulation. The drying process can be completed while maintaining a lower powder temperature. Another important function is the perfect application for dry forming of heat sensitive products.
Control particle size and powder properties
Since the spray drying and fluidized bed drying processes are combined in a drying tower, the dryer can be operated over a wide range of variations in particle size, moisture content and dry air temperature. Thereby better control of the extent and effect of particle agglomeration or granulation.
There are three zones in the drying tower of the FSD that are affected by the interaction of atomized droplets and dry particles until the agglomeration or granulation structure is completed.
1. The first area is around the atomizer: the atomized droplets and the atomized droplets are in contact with each other.
2. The second zone is in the drying tower: the atomized droplets and the dry particles are in contact with each other.
3. The third zone is in the fluidized bed and the upper part of the fluidized bed: the wet and dry particles are in contact with each other.
The more complete contact of the droplets with the particles, the larger the compaction of the resulting agglomerated or granulated particles.
The finer agglomerated powder is obtained at a higher outlet temperature, at which time the moisture content of the particles in the drying tower is lower and the agglomeration effect is less. Cooling air is used in the built-in fluidized bed.
Larger agglomerated powders are obtained at lower outlet temperatures, increasing the moisture content of the particles in the drying tower, thereby increasing the agglomeration and granulation effects, using heated air in the built-in fluidized bed.
FSD can also achieve finer-grained powders that are typically available from other spray drying equipment while converting the feed liquid to larger agglomerated and granulated granules.
The FSD can also operate the rewet agglomerated particles as a powder feed.
